Course Number: 492CT

Credits: 3

Prerequisites: Current RN license

Course Description

This course on complementary therapy is dedicated to nurses who hold a common vision of nursing as a unified holistic profession and who want to learn how to actualize the essence of modern nursing - of being nurse healers - by blending traditional knowledge of Western medicine and holistic practices. The course covers topics such as holism, healing, and world health care practices, and links holistic nursing theories with nursing diagnosis, nursing outcomes, and holistic nursing interventions. Also addressed are ethics, integrative medicine, and critical thinking as they apply to complementary and alternative therapies. The course uses experiential activities involving complementary and alternative nursing therapies to enhance appreciation for and understanding of how to use those therapies effectively to enhance the holistic health of self, family, significant others, and clients.
