Course Description
This course stresses the role of the nurse as a researcher and a research consumer. It includes both quantitative and qualitative research. Skills necessary to critically read and evaluate nursing research and to utilize the results of research in practice are developed. The historical, legal, and ethical aspects of nursing research are considered.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Identify events and factors that affected the historical development of nursing research.
- Explain the importance of research to nursing practice and the profession of nursing.
- Describe the interrelationships among nursing theory, nursing practice, and nursing research.
- Describe the components of the research process.
- Apply aspects of the research process in a clinical or educational setting.
- Explore legal and ethical considerations for nursing research.
- Analyze nursing research reports using critiquing skills.
- Review nursing research reports for utilization in current nursing practice.
